William Constable was born in Hull, Yorkshire, England. He emigrated to Canada with his stepfather, William Jarott, in 1830. He worked in the lumbering business in Quebec for six years before moving to Vaughan Township, Lot 16, Concession 6 in 1841. He married Mary Jackson who was also from Hull and was the daughter of George Jackson. George, Mary, Herbert and Bruce, to whom these records belong, are members of the Constable family.

Scope and content

Collection consists of school records belonging to Bruce, Herbert, Mary and George Constable. Records consist of assignments, test and examination papers, notebooks, day planners, textbooks, a pocket dictionary, daily attendance registers for Vaughan Township School S.S. No. 9 (Vellore School) and various handwritten notes. Also included are miscellaneous private records such as church programs, a playbill for a performance, a booklet containing baking recipes, newspapers and periodicals, an auto insurance card issued to John W. Constable and a box of candy.
