Church founded in 1835 on lot 28, concession 4, when Wm Craddock donated half an acre on the southeast corner of his property for a church and burial ground; variously known as Hope or Nixon's Chapel, ca. 1835-1858; Hope Primitive Methodist Church, ca. 1858-1884; Hope Methodist Church, 1884-1925. In 1925, Hope joined the union of the Methodist, Presbyterian, and Congregational Churches in Canada becoming Hope United Church. The final service was held on 2 Jan. 1966. In 1968 the property was sold and the church was dismantled and removed.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of congregational minute book, 1935-1968; correspondence, 1958-1972; lists of burials from Hope Primitive Methodist Cemetery : 1840-1960; history of the founding of the Hope United Church Women, 1967; lists of ministers : 1850-1962; insurance policies and various legal, and financial documents, ca. 1950-1965.
