Ida McDonald collection

Collection consists of pamphlets: The McDonald family / Henry McDonald, 1967; The Gordon McGillivray Male Choir / Committee for the Gordon McGillivray Male Choir, 1983 ; Over a century : St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Maple, Ontario 1829-1932 / Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 1932; Sesquicentennial history of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church / Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Also included are a hand-coloured postcard depicting Teston (Ont.), [ca. 1900], and a daily register for School Section #5 (Hope School), located on the west half of lot 28, concession 3 in Vaughan Township; the latter is noteworthy as it not only delineates attendees, but includes a list of text books authorized for use during the period in question and includes regulations on religious and moral instruction in public schools. Finally, the collection includes facsimiles of select records of Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Church: baptism register, 1833-1861, and marriage registers for 1902-1928 and 1928-1954.

The fonds consists of records that reflect the different roles that Janet played throughout her life as well as the various activities and functions she performed throughout the community. The fonds is arranged into five series and then various subseries, all of which reflect Janet’s diverse activities.

The majority of the records are textual (i.e. minutes, reports, correspondence, published material, newspapers, etc.) although there is also a sizable photograph collection as well as some maps and plans and even artwork. Fonds consists of: Binder Twine Festival programs, posters, artwork, committee minutes, advertising, press releases, copies of by-laws, books, correspondence, account ledgers, newsletters, speeches, research notes, newspaper clippings, cassette tapes, Kleinburg/community history notes (eg. Fonds consists of photographs and postcards depicting Thomas D. Keffer, M.D., 1843-1921 and Jane Keffer (Evans), and various descendants thereof. This small fragmentary fonds is noteworthy for the presence of an early image, ca. 1870, of Dr. Keffer. Also includes and excellent image of the T.D. Keffer House in Maple, 1909.

Fonds consists of two booklets with various stories on Kleinburg, pamphlets from Central United Church and Woodbridge Presbyterian Church, a program for a walking tour of Kleinburg, A History of Nashville written by Jim Maw, 2 CDs with images of Nashville and accompanying explanatory notes, and lists of the baptisms, marriages, and deaths at the Nashville Presbyterian Church (Accession M009.8).

Accession M016.8 consists of one black and white photo from the first Burrlington School "Old Boys and Girls Reunion". The reunion was held at Scott's Bush at the west end of Nashville on August 29, 1931. During the afternoon, a program of spots was conducted by Len Patterson and Tom McDonough. The event continued for the next ten years, and eventually ended as a result of World War II.

Item consists of a diary. Subjects addressed are Peterson's parish in Vaughan, and the difficulties encountered here as result of machinations of one Michael Keffer, a parishioner.

Collection consists of photographs of students and staff of Langstaff School, 1893 and Concord School, 1924, n.d.; photographs of attendees of Thornhill United Church Sunday School picnic, 1925, Thornhill Girls Hockey Team, 1918, and unidentified family portrait originally owned by the late Mary Jane Weaver. Textual records consist of newspaper clippings documenting aspects of the heritage of Markham, Vaughan and Richmond Hill from the 1970's to 1985, with a particular focus on built heritage.

Fonds consists of Cemetery Board minutes, financial documents, including a journal of plot purchases and a set of acount books, plot indexes (with ocassional accompanying photograph of cemetery within) and a combined plot index/burial register, flower planting plan; perpetual care fund records, memorial day programmes, legal documents, correspondence, and cemetery rules and regulations. Evidence in plot indexes suggests presence of burials in cemetery predating founding of cemetery board (i.e. pre-1871).
