Baker Family Collection

Collection consists of 3.5cm of textual materials, including paperwork regarding Mennonite Consciencious Objectors newsletters from work camps, non-resistant Relief Organization letters, National War Services Regulations and information regarding the Baker and Cober farms. Of particular interest is a 1918 letter to the Commanding Officer at Exhibition Camp, Toronto, regarding Isaac Baker, asking for his release from military service.

File consists of five photoprints depicting the old Reaman farm house which is accessed on Bathurst St. just around the corner from Rutherford, the monument at Barrhill Rd, on the NW corner of Barrhill and Rutherford. Monument contains gravestones from Reupard's Settlement Pioneer Burying Ground. One shows a bridge over river near the monument. CDs contain images of the Reaman farmhouse, Reupard's Settlement Pioneer Burying Grounds (cemetery monument and park and pond), gravestones on monument, the Carrville Post Office restoration celebration, and the William Cook House.

Item consists of an autobigoraphy. Recounts life on a farm in rural Markham during early 20th-century; agriculture, machinery, crops grown, methods of harvesting, etc., is especially well-documented. Also provides insight into rural education, economic relationship between such outlying rural areas and Toronto, collective psyche of rural-agrarian populace, etc.; observations apply to Vaughan Township and other constituent municipalities of York County.

Item consists of a sealed 750 mL wine bottle with red wine from Hillebrand Estates Winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. Used in celebration of Vaughan receiving city status in 1991. Council included (names taped to bottle): Mayor Lorna Jackson, Regional Councillors Michael Di Biase and David Chapley, Ward 1 Councillor Peter Meffe, Ward 2 Councillors Gino Rosati and Franck Cipollone, and Ward 3 Concillors Bernie Green and Mario Racco.

Bowes family fonds [Textual record]

Fonds consists of a speech given by Ms. Rumble on the occasion of the unveiling of a plaque, located on the site of the original Bowes homestead, commemorating the contribution of the Bowes to the area. The Bowes line is traced back to 16th century England, but the speech principally concentrates on the descendants of Anthony Bowes (1789-1870), who settled on Lot 3, Concession 2, Vaughan Township in 1831. Fonds also includes a family tree and history of the Bowes and Maxwell families, with particular emphasis on William Maxwell, son of Anthony and Ellen, and his wife, Ann. Other properties of note are Lot 7, Concession 2, Lot 10, Concession 3 and Lot 11, Concession 3.

Item consists of a study. The purpose of the Master Planning Study was the preparation and approval of a Master Plan for the development, operation and management of the Boyd Conservation Area, owned and leased by the MTRCA. The plan documents the scope and scale of site development, the locations for suitable site uses, and supporting facilities such as road access, parking, water supply and waste disposal. The site is characterized by ten designated environmentally significant areas; extensive flood plains, steep wooded valley slopes, 230 ha of natural forests; 51 ha of reforestation, 170 ha of agriculture, five buildings of historical interest, and a number of known archaeological sites.
