Vaughan Public Library fonds

Fonds consists of items collected by the various branches of the Vaughan Public Library over the past few decades. Items were collected by both staff and Board Members who accumulated materials for VPLs Reference Collection. Included in the accession are various historical reference files, newspapers, minute books, historical slides, maps and clippings which relate to historic homes and personalities from the Vaughan area. Of particular note are: Thornhill Month Newspapers from 1980-1999; York Region Criss-Cross Directories from 1997-2000; "Woodbridge: A Heritage in Pictures" slide set by Nick Wesson; Woodbridge Women's Institute Minute Books, Treasury Books and Programs ca. 1904-1969; Vaughan Perspectives Newspapers from 2007; MTRCA Maple Area Study from 1974; Kleinburg, King City, Concord, Vaughan, Thornhill and Richmond Hill Historic House Clippings; "Crossroads to Urban Community" by Hugh Cook; Vaughan Weekly, Citizen and SNAP newspapers and an "Ontario Directory to 1900s on Microfiche".

Accession M016.3 consists of one printout of the Vaughan Poetry Map, created in 2016 for the celebration of Vaughan's 25th Anniversary.

M018.1 consists of items produced as a result of the Bathurst Clark Library's summer exhibit "Anne Frank - A History for Today". This exhibit, which ran from July 3rd - August 31st, 2017 was well received by the public and various comments were left by guests in a guest book, supplied by the library. This guest book, along with two promotional materials have been transferred to the archives.

Accession M020.1 consists of architectural plans and drawings from the construction of four Vaughan City Libraries: Civic Centre Resource Library, Pleasant Ridge Library, Dufferin Clark Library and Ainsley Grove Library. Primary focus is on showing finished designs for libraries and elevations. Drawings also show element schedules, construction details and other perspectives.

Accession M022.2 consists of two foamcore boards depicting interior renovations to the Bathurst Clark Library.

Accession M024.1 consists of a number of reference resources on early settlement and the history of Vaughan, with a specific focus on the Village of Woodbridge. Also included are a commemorative plate commissioned by the BWI, postcards of Woodbridge, images of Council members and paintings of the area.

Watson family fonds [Textual record and other material]

Fonds consists of administrative records for the Kleinburg United Church, the Kleinburg Gables (Kleinburg Rotary Non-Profit Housing Corporation), and the Vaughan Public Library Board, Woodbridge fair and Binder Twine Festival posters, an 1878 atlas, a copy of the 1860 Tremaine map, photos of the District Junior Farmer's Camp, Camp Ahshunyoog, in 1949 and 1952, postcards of Kleinburg streetscapes, newspaper clippings of events in Woodbridge and Kleinburg, Binder Twine Festival programs from 1968 to 2011 (missing 1988, 1992-2000 and 2003-2004), two Binder Twine dolls on a stand made by Olive Watson adn entered in the 1984 Binder Twine Festival's Doll Competition (received honourable mention), two Woodbridge Fair ribbons for High Points won by Janet Watson in the late 1970s or early 1980s for highest number of points in baking, an issue of the Weston Collegiate Alumni News which includes a writeup on former Kleinburg resident Dave Eadie, as well as newspaper clippings and other ephemera. Also includes a 1956 phone directory, two boxes with vials filled with seeds from the Watson farm for school projects, copy of Watson family history, and an Arlow family history with photos of farm and Rutherford Rd in 1930s.

Accession M016.19 consists of 5 photoprints on copy loan of Binder Twine Festivals in the 1970s and 1980s. One image features a Doll Making Bee taken at the Watson House in the late 1970s/early 1980s. Four images feature the Watson and Kerr families at the 1974 Binder Twine Festival.

Accession M016.20 consists of one CD containing 262 images of the 2015 Binder Twine Festival, including events and attendees.

Accession M016.25 consists of one CD containing over 900 images of historic and recent Binder Twine Festivals spanning the years 1967-2016 and includes committee meetings and Binder Twine quilts.

Accession M017.9 consists of materials that were collected by the Watson Family that were collected over the course of several generations and relate to Kleinburg, the Binder Twine Festival and the Watson Family. Of particular interest are three quilted Binder Twine Albums which chronicle the Festival's Quilting contest from 1968-2016. Additional information regarding the Nashville Railway Scout House, The Kleinburg United Church and the development of the William T. Foster Woods are also of interest as the family was largely involved in these groups/developments.

Accession M017.12 consists of materials that related to the Watson Family and their farm located on Lot 7, Concession 6. Included are indentures, mortgage agreements, estate paperwork and farm account books, as well as information on the Estate Auction of Robert Watson.
