Item consists of a site plan of the property of Benjamin Thorne and William Parsons, his brother-in-law, who operated grist mill, tannery, general store in area that came to be known as Thornhill and developed extensive trade with surrounding areas and Britain; property lost in 1848 as consequence of repeal of the protectionist Corn Laws in 1846; survey of property, including part of lot 30, concession 1 as well as lot 31, concession 1and lot 32, concession 1, ordered by trustees.

Item consists of an alphabetical street listing for town; maps showing street locations, grouped by local community.

Collection consists of multi-provenance reproductions of Cartographic items relating to two major villages in Vaughan Township, Kleinburg and Thornhill; as well as the Village of Woodbridge. File consists of microfiches. Transcriptions of original baptismal, marriage, and burial registers of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Thornhill, the tenth oldest parish in the Diocese of Toronto, established in 1830. An index of all names appearing in the register transcriptions (participants, witnesses, etc.) is included.

Item consists of a videocassette and a script. Through use of historic photographs and etchings, and contemporary footage focusing predominantly upon Thornhill's historically significant sites and architecture, provides synopsis of major events and personalities constituting the area's history.

Transcripts of reminiscences of Marjorie Page, 1989; map of Vaughan Township, 1924; educational records; Stewart Page's 4th year thesis (1924) at the Ontario Agricultural College re: the agricultural history of Vaughan Township, including area's settlement patterns, ethnic configuration, transportation development, social life, topography, agricultural products raised, revenue derived therefrom, etc.; photoprints of Page property and family including series depicting Stewart Page as a serviceman with the Canadian Forces overseas in WW I.

Item consists of a journal entry. Excerpt from journal no. 11 describing Vaughan area and specifically Thornhill: provides very incisive commentary on climate, architecture, clothing, language, and principal occupations of inhabitants, etc.

Item consists of a support document for tour of historically and/or architecturally significant structures, and historically important sites located in the village of Thornhill; includes brief history of village; bulk of document expounds upon building methods, architectural styles, and the architectural and/or historical significance of a number of structures and sites; sketches by Group of Seven artist Thoreau MacDonald.

Item consists of an unpublished essay relating to the experience of Robert Arthur West, the great-grandfather of the author, in Thornhill; Mr. West was the "Thornhill General Merchant" from 1834 to 1884. In addition to commenting upon the general history of Thornhill through its formative period, the essay describes the original store (located on lot 31 , east or Markham side of Yonge St.), subsequent structural changes, merchandise stocked, delineation of ownership from 1837-1937; the house originally built by Mr. West (7780 Yonge St., on west or Vaughan side of Yonge Street), and the latter's recollections of life along Yonge Street during the period specified; includes observations re: Fire of 1950 and Hurricane Hazel in 1954.

Fonds consists of records reflecting the abovenoted functions: correspondence, assessment and collector's rolls, printed matter, minutes, financial and legal documents, judicial reocrds, voters lists, tax arrears material, etc. Major subjects addressed include transportation, agriculture, economic development, the Great Depression, the World Wars, Clergy Reserves, labour issues, electoral reform, etc.
