Woodbridge Horticultural Society fonds [Textual record and other material]

Fonds consists of annual year books and show books; these provide lists of officers and members of the board of directors, programmes hosted by the Society for the year, show rules, essays on a variety of subjects related to horticulture by members and non-members, with contributions from the Ontario Dept. of Agriculture being particularly prevalent; general membership lists and lists of junior members are also present, as are local advertisers who supported the Society financially.

Accession M024.3 consists of Woodbridge Horticultural Society Yearbooks, photographs of displays and materials promoting the 100th Anniversary in 2023.

Vaughan Public Library fonds

Fonds consists of items collected by the various branches of the Vaughan Public Library over the past few decades. Items were collected by both staff and Board Members who accumulated materials for VPLs Reference Collection. Included in the accession are various historical reference files, newspapers, minute books, historical slides, maps and clippings which relate to historic homes and personalities from the Vaughan area. Of particular note are: Thornhill Month Newspapers from 1980-1999; York Region Criss-Cross Directories from 1997-2000; "Woodbridge: A Heritage in Pictures" slide set by Nick Wesson; Woodbridge Women's Institute Minute Books, Treasury Books and Programs ca. 1904-1969; Vaughan Perspectives Newspapers from 2007; MTRCA Maple Area Study from 1974; Kleinburg, King City, Concord, Vaughan, Thornhill and Richmond Hill Historic House Clippings; "Crossroads to Urban Community" by Hugh Cook; Vaughan Weekly, Citizen and SNAP newspapers and an "Ontario Directory to 1900s on Microfiche".

Accession M016.3 consists of one printout of the Vaughan Poetry Map, created in 2016 for the celebration of Vaughan's 25th Anniversary.

M018.1 consists of items produced as a result of the Bathurst Clark Library's summer exhibit "Anne Frank - A History for Today". This exhibit, which ran from July 3rd - August 31st, 2017 was well received by the public and various comments were left by guests in a guest book, supplied by the library. This guest book, along with two promotional materials have been transferred to the archives.

Accession M020.1 consists of architectural plans and drawings from the construction of four Vaughan City Libraries: Civic Centre Resource Library, Pleasant Ridge Library, Dufferin Clark Library and Ainsley Grove Library. Primary focus is on showing finished designs for libraries and elevations. Drawings also show element schedules, construction details and other perspectives.

Accession M022.2 consists of two foamcore boards depicting interior renovations to the Bathurst Clark Library.

Accession M024.1 consists of a number of reference resources on early settlement and the history of Vaughan, with a specific focus on the Village of Woodbridge. Also included are a commemorative plate commissioned by the BWI, postcards of Woodbridge, images of Council members and paintings of the area.

City of Vaughan Recreation Services fonds

Fonds consists of a banner used for the official opening of City Hall, as well as 46 reference books on Canada, Ontario and Vaughan Township history. Also included is 1 enlargement of the Humber River on foam core. Of particular interest is a 2000 calendar with Lorna Jackson's artwork, a 1986 Kleinburg Binder Twine Festival program, a book on the Keffer Site and archeaological dig, a book from the Pennsylvania-German folklore society on the baker family homestead, an article on Patterson in the York Pioneer Journal, and writeups on Al Palladini and Gus Lanzarotta's businesses.

The October 2011 Accession (RG 18-011.1) included a banner to commemorate the Official Opening of the New City Hall on September 25, 2011. The majority of the images on this banner were taken from City of Vaughan Archives. The banner provides a timeline and depicts images of buildings used for City Hall throughout Vaughan's history as well as scenes from Vaughan's past.

The May 2014 Accession (RG 18 -014.2) included a CD consisting of images depicting the Inaugural Council of 2010, the Vaughan Accord of 2011, as well as photos of the new City Hall Construction, Christmas Wish Toy Drive, and Old Heritage and Vaughan Celebrates Photos from 2010.

Accession M022.4 contains objects related to well-known Vaughan figures and insitutions including John Thompson, Major Mackenzie, Garnet Williams and Elizabeth Arden. Many books contain inscriptions relating to the Stump family and the Bibles have inserts of birth registers and obituaries.

Accession M024.4 consists of 3 files relating to heritage properties on Keele Street: 8981 Keele, 9589 Keele and 9560 Keele.

Accession M024.2 consists of 2 aerials of Woodbridge and one image of Robinson's Cotton Mills employee picnic in Orillia in 1938.

McClure family fonds [Textual record and other material]

Fonds consists of records documenting the personal lives and history of the McClure family, in particular of Samuel and Nancy McClure and their eight children, as well as material related to the history of Elder's Mills. Records consist of correspondence; sound recordings and transcribed interviews with members of the McClure family; postcards; invitations to the McClure and Cameron family gatherings; assessment notices and tax bills for Lot 14, Concession 8 and Lot 15, Concession 8; letters regarding the sale of Lot 14, Concession 8 and Lot 11, Concession 9; a book titled "The Clan McClure" compiled by Thomas Andrew McClure; a scrapbook; photographs of the Knox Presbyterian Church and Elder's Mills Public School; the bank book and ledger from the Elder's Mills Old Boys Association; historical write-ups of Elder's Mills used in the book "Remembering Elder's Mills"; and a series of photographs of the McClure members and the various families into which they married. Members of the Cameron, Nattress, Quinn, McNeil and Agar families, who were related by marriage, are also represented in the fonds.

Accession M017.4 consists of 2cm of textual records, 5 family bibles and 19 photographs. The bibles where once owned by Andrew Waugh, Andrew McClure (2 vols.) and John and Leticia Waugh (2 vols.). Of particular interest are the Andrew McClure bibles, which contain detailed family history starting in 1788. Various photographs of the Stone House, McClure Family, Beamish Family and panoramic family reunion photos are also included.

Accession M017.6 contained one hard cover book "Samuel and Nancy (Cameron) McClure: Their Lineage, Life and Legacy" written by Ann McClure. This book is currently in the Reading Room.

Accession M018.15 consists of one (1) 1833 indenture between John Henderson and Joseph Wells for lot 13, concession 8.

Accession M019.5 consists of 4.5 cm of textual records, 1 soft cover book, 5 cabinet cards, 3 photographs and 4 cartes des vistes. Accession contains official records relating to the estates of Magaret Thomson, Thomas H. Steele, Edward Hooper, James Stewart, James Rutherford, William Beaton McGillivray, Neil McGillivray and Jane McGillivray eg. income tax forms, mortgages, deeds, bond payments, wills and settlement. Other official documents are land division outlines for Lot 19, Concession 9, a death notice for William Beaton McGillvray and a marriage certificate between James Peter McKay and Mary Ann Elliot. Accession contains four pamphlets: two on Richmond Hill Presybeterian Church, one on Woodbridge Presbyterian Church and the Gordon McGillivray Male Choir. There is also a book about William Beaton and Catherine McFee and carte de vistes, cabinet cards and photographs of members of the McGillivray and Lawrie families and individuals of Lachlan Beaton and Teenie Cameron.

Accession M019.7 consists of 4 cm of textual record, 1 cabinet card, 1 cartes des vistes, 2 glass plate negatives and 15 photographs. Records consist of certificates for accomplishments, including the joining of the Masonic Lodge, a list of those who attended George Miller's barn raising, a copy of the final edition of the Toronto Telegram Newspaper, photographs of the McClures, Walter Quinn, cows and groups of people, notably the Coleraine Public School, Junior Boys Farmers, Woodbridge United Church Choir, Elder's Mills Choral Society, and Masonic Lodge members. Accession M023.19 consists of records related to the McClure family and their life in Elder's Mills, including their roles within the community.

Isaac Baker Bridle Ornament

Accession M023.16 consists of a bridle ornament made by Isaac Baker. The bridle consists of a silver-plate piece in a scalloped shaped with a slight curve. Usually, a maker's mark is engraved onto this piece and then it is attached to the nose band of the bridle. Inscribed in the band of the bridge is "Isaac Baker / Saddler / Maple Ont."

Item consists of an article by John McGroarty of Baden-Powell's South African Constabulary, formerly of Woodbridge, to Mr. Ed. W. Brown, Manager of the Woodbridge Branch of the Leader And Recorder (Toronto, Ont.), published in said newspaper. Comments on experience during the Boer War, conditions onboard transport vessels, in hospitals on the continent, and life in Africa generally.

Woodbridge agricultural society fonds [multiple media]

Fonds consists of correspondence, administrative files, by-laws, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, financial documents, membership lists, fair program and prize lists, legal documents, advertising and promotional material, videocassettes, photoprints, postcards, posters, and ephemera. Most records generated as a result of administration of the Woodbridge Fair with subject matter including Miss Woodbridge Pageant, space requests, general activities, exhibits, Woodbridge Fair Parade, Woodbridge Centennial, livestock judging, etc. M999.9 accession constituted of the Woodbridge Fall Fair papers such as programs, posters, applications for permits, newspaper clippings, correspondence and photographs. The remnants of a tin time capsule from 1924 that was opened in 1997 are also included along with the contents of the time capsule including: 1921-1924 Woodbridge Fair prize lists and letters written by Daniel C.
