Woodbridge agricultural society fonds [multiple media]

Fonds consists of correspondence, administrative files, by-laws, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, financial documents, membership lists, fair program and prize lists, legal documents, advertising and promotional material, videocassettes, photoprints, postcards, posters, and ephemera. Most records generated as a result of administration of the Woodbridge Fair with subject matter including Miss Woodbridge Pageant, space requests, general activities, exhibits, Woodbridge Fair Parade, Woodbridge Centennial, livestock judging, etc. M999.9 accession constituted of the Woodbridge Fall Fair papers such as programs, posters, applications for permits, newspaper clippings, correspondence and photographs. The remnants of a tin time capsule from 1924 that was opened in 1997 are also included along with the contents of the time capsule including: 1921-1924 Woodbridge Fair prize lists and letters written by Daniel C. Fonds consists of correspondence, portraits of Joseph, Rachel and Alice Weatherill, three school certificates for Alice Weatherill, histories written by Ann Price concerning the Weatherill family and their descendants, an aerial photoprint of the farm at Lot 7, Concession 10, material concerning Lot 9, Concession 10, and various legal documents. Also included is a register of the births, marriages, and deaths in the family which used to hang in the parlour.

Fonds consists primarily of indentures, providing evidence of the disposition of the Watson family farm, located on lot 32, concession 7, Vaughan Township from the 1830's to the 1930's, and miscellaneous legal and financial documents; also includes William Watson's teaching certificate and a history of the Watson family compiled in 1999.

Fonds consists of administrative records for the Kleinburg United Church, the Kleinburg Gables (Kleinburg Rotary Non-Profit Housing Corporation), and the Vaughan Public Library Board, Woodbridge fair and Binder Twine Festival posters, an 1878 atlas, a copy of the 1860 Tremaine map, photos of the District Junior Farmer's Camp, Camp Ahshunyoog, in 1949 and 1952, postcards of Kleinburg streetscapes, newspaper clippings of events in Woodbridge and Kleinburg, Binder Twine Festival programs from 1968 to 2011 (missing 1988, 1992-2000 and 2003-2004), two Binder Twine dolls on a stand made by Olive Watson adn entered in the 1984 Binder Twine Festival's Doll Competition (received honourable mention), two Woodbridge Fair ribbons for High Points won by Janet Watson in the late 1970s or early 1980s for highest number of points in baking, an issue of the Weston Collegiate Alumni News which includes a writeup on former Kleinburg resident Dave Eadie, as well as newspaper clippings and other ephemera. Also includes a 1956 phone directory, two boxes with vials filled with seeds from the Watson farm for school projects, copy of Watson family history, and an Arlow family history with photos of farm and Rutherford Rd in 1930s.

Accession M016.19 consists of 5 photoprints on copy loan of Binder Twine Festivals in the 1970s and 1980s. One image features a Doll Making Bee taken at the Watson House in the late 1970s/early 1980s. Four images feature the Watson and Kerr families at the 1974 Binder Twine Festival.

Accession M016.20 consists of one CD containing 262 images of the 2015 Binder Twine Festival, including events and attendees.

Accession M016.25 consists of one CD containing over 900 images of historic and recent Binder Twine Festivals spanning the years 1967-2016 and includes committee meetings and Binder Twine quilts.

Accession M017.9 consists of materials that were collected by the Watson Family that were collected over the course of several generations and relate to Kleinburg, the Binder Twine Festival and the Watson Family. Of particular interest are three quilted Binder Twine Albums which chronicle the Festival's Quilting contest from 1968-2016. Additional information regarding the Nashville Railway Scout House, The Kleinburg United Church and the development of the William T. Foster Woods are also of interest as the family was largely involved in these groups/developments.

Accession M017.12 consists of materials that related to the Watson Family and their farm located on Lot 7, Concession 6. Included are indentures, mortgage agreements, estate paperwork and farm account books, as well as information on the Estate Auction of Robert Watson.

Fonds consists of minute books, 1915-1982, delineating deliberations, decisions, and activities of the Vellore Women's Institute, as well as occasionally citing the names of members and officers; and Vellore Tweedsmuir history (present in original and microform). Main topical subjects addressed in the latter include: Vellore Women's Institute and its contribution to welfare and development of the community; general community history including geography and topography of the locale; municipal government; agriculture; architecture; education; trade and commerce; histories of individual farms and families; religion; experiences of the community in Canada's wars including namers of volunteers in both conflicts; the Vellore Literary Society; the Vellore Band; transcribed reminicences of such individuals as Mrs. Ann Davidson, and Elizabeth Ann Snider; (extensive coverage of Rutherford Barn Raising, 1929; as well as history of hamlet of Teston; and Purpleville School (S.S #11).

Item consists of a microfilm reel with the Elder's Mills Women's Insitute Tweedsmuir History. The Elder's Mill Tweedsmuir history is composed of eight topical elements: mills, including the origin of the name Elder's Mills, genealogies, photographs, maps of orignal land owners, and Indigenous History; the Elder's Mills Women's Institute, including organizational history, personal histories of membership, membership lists, etc. ; churches; schools, including Elder's Mills (School Section #15), Vaughan School (Lower Ninth) (School Section #13), Mackenzie Senior Public School, and a brief history of schools in the west half of Vaughan; roads and fences; farms, from the 7th to the 9th concession, community organizations; and services, including Woodbridge and Vaughan Telephone Company, Woodbridge Hydro-Electric Power Commission, Toronto Grey and Bruce Railway; also included is a roll of Elder's Mills residents who served in His Majesty's Forces during World War I.
