Burwick Women's Institute fonds

Fonds consists of cashbooks, ledgers, miscellaneous financial documents, minute books, programmes, and correspondence; the aforementioned records delineate deliberations, decisions, activities, financial transactions, and members and officers. Fonds also includes the Woodbridge Tweedsmuir history, a large format 5 volume local history of the Woodbridge area compiled by the members of the Burwick Women's Institute since 1947; the history contains numerous photographs and postcards. Fonds also includes miscellaneous printed matter reflecting the affiliations of the institute.

Edgeley Women's Institute fonds

Fonds consists of: Minute books, 1913-1993 (1926-1937 volume is missing) delineating the deliberations, decisions, and activities of the Edgeley Women's Institute; minute books also include lists of officers and directors, attendance records of members, and cash book entries and general financial statements. One separate cash book, 1988-1993. Programmes, 1921-1981. Edgeley Tweedsmuir History, which in addition to a history of the Edgeley area from 1792 includes a list of guest speakers that addressed the institute, biographies of certain members, lists of officers and members who held offices at the district and provincial level. There are also notes and draft chapters for the Tweedsmuir History, as well as a manual for the latter's compilation issued by the Ontario Women's Institute, and a number of original documents collected as research material for the history. The fonds also includes a photograph series constituted of two aggregates; the first focuses on the membership and activities of the Edgeley Women's Institute. The second consists of historic photographs relating to Edgeley; some notable images include the Edgeley School with pupils assembled in front, 1888, a turn-of-the-century barn raising, a steam tractor converted to power a circular saw, 1900, and the interior of a typical 1920's farmhouse.

Maple Women's Institute fonds [Textual records and other material]

Fonds consists of minute books delineating deliberations, decisions, and activities, for the period 1920-1991; members and officers also cited, intermittently. Fonds also constituted of the Maple Tweedsmuir history, in 2 volumes, compiled between ca. 1948 and 1995 (while the institute disbanded in 1991, work on the compilation of the final volume of the Tweedsmuir history continued until 1995) the history, which includes numerous 19th and early twentieth century photographs and postcards, comments on: architecture and buildings such as the Maple Community Library, Canadian Bank of Commerce, Maple Community Centre; general history of Maple; personalities such as Dr. Routley and Isaac Baker; events such as the Superior Propane Explosion of 1962; institutions and agencies such as Woodbridge and Vaughan Telephone Co., Maple Flying Club; etc. A historical sketch of the hamlet of Sherwood, just south of Maple, is also included. Tweedsmuir history provides excellent photographic evidence of Maple and its inhabitants, and includes postcards, some examples of which are hand-coloured. The history chronicles Maple and its evolution to 1995, with the second volume focusing heavily on streetscapes and heritage preservation in the mid-1980's to 1990's. Fonds also includes two large volumes of newspaper clippings chronicling various events in Maple from 1960 to the early 1980's and the history of the Maple Women's Institute; volume focusing upon Maple includes extensive coverage of Maple Lions Club and Superior Propane Explosion of 1962, development and local opposition thereto, municipal government, as well as images and text from newspapers re: 19th-century Maple. Second volume centres primarily upon the history of the Maple W.I. Fonds also includes loose postcards and photographs documenting architecture, streetscapes, and personalities; as well, odd documents such as maps, printed histories of the Hope United Church and Teston United Church, 1891 by-laws for the Maple United Church, etc. Of final note is the presence of a Primitive Methodist "preachers' plan" for the Laskay Circuit for 1867-1879, indicating preachers, stewards and places on the circuit (includes villages of Carrville and Patterson in Vaughan Township).

Excerpts taken from entries in 1954 Tweedsmuir history competition by the Ontario Dept. of Public Records and Archives conceived to be of some general interest; represented as segments of histories of Richview Village, Streetsville, and various hamlets, police villages, villages, etc. of South Dumphries, Whitchurch, and Vaughan Townships.

Item consists of a microfilm reel. The Tweedsmuir history of the COAWI consists of history of the activities of the COAWI's costituent branches. Prior to 1959 these were: Grey, Dufferin, Peel, York, Ontario, Victoria, Durham, and Peterborough. After 1959 these were: Dufferin, Peel, York, Ontario, Durham, Victoria. Includes names of officers, as well as brief historical sketches of the COAWI.

Item consists of a microfilm reel with the Elder's Mills Women's Insitute Tweedsmuir History. The Elder's Mill Tweedsmuir history is composed of eight topical elements: mills, including the origin of the name Elder's Mills, genealogies, photographs, maps of orignal land owners, and Indigenous History; the Elder's Mills Women's Institute, including organizational history, personal histories of membership, membership lists, etc. ; churches; schools, including Elder's Mills (School Section #15), Vaughan School (Lower Ninth) (School Section #13), Mackenzie Senior Public School, and a brief history of schools in the west half of Vaughan; roads and fences; farms, from the 7th to the 9th concession, community organizations; and services, including Woodbridge and Vaughan Telephone Company, Woodbridge Hydro-Electric Power Commission, Toronto Grey and Bruce Railway; also included is a roll of Elder's Mills residents who served in His Majesty's Forces during World War I.
