Richmond Hill's first historian and contributor to the local newspapers the York Herald and the Liberal. Harrison was born in 1834 in Bath, England, emigrating with his family to Canada in 1843 and settling on a farm three kilometres north of Richmond Hill. Active in the community, Harrison assisted in the establishment of the first fire brigade and was a founding member of the Richmond Hill Mechanics Institute and Literary Society; most notably, he penned hundreds of articles, editorials and columns in local newspapers, estabishing himself as the community's principal booster and historian.

Scope and content

Item consists predominantly of newspaper clippings, many of which were originally attributable to Wm. Harrison, detailing various aspects of the history of Richmond Hill; includes numerous illustrations, in lithographic and photographic formats, as well as occasional pieces of original correspondence from the 1850's-1870's originating with the Harrison family. Item compiled by Wm Harrison for his son F.W. Harrison, L.L.B.
