Custodial history
Formed in 1850 to administer the daily affairs of the Township in: finance and accounting, certain legal and judicial matters, taxation, licencing, elections, local record keeping and statistical gathering, and in part local education, and health and welfare. Little evidence exists of an adminstrative/organizational hierarchy throughtout the history of the Office. All authority appears to have been vested in and flowed directly from the Clerk-Treasurer. The Office was divided in 1968 into two separate and distinct agencies in an effort to better deal with increasing service demands on the municipal infrastructure: the Clerk's and Treasurer's Departments.
