City of Vaughan Recreation Services fonds

Fonds consists of a banner used for the official opening of City Hall, as well as 46 reference books on Canada, Ontario and Vaughan Township history. Also included is 1 enlargement of the Humber River on foam core. Of particular interest is a 2000 calendar with Lorna Jackson's artwork, a 1986 Kleinburg Binder Twine Festival program, a book on the Keffer Site and archeaological dig, a book from the Pennsylvania-German folklore society on the baker family homestead, an article on Patterson in the York Pioneer Journal, and writeups on Al Palladini and Gus Lanzarotta's businesses.

The October 2011 Accession (RG 18-011.1) included a banner to commemorate the Official Opening of the New City Hall on September 25, 2011. The majority of the images on this banner were taken from City of Vaughan Archives. The banner provides a timeline and depicts images of buildings used for City Hall throughout Vaughan's history as well as scenes from Vaughan's past.

The May 2014 Accession (RG 18 -014.2) included a CD consisting of images depicting the Inaugural Council of 2010, the Vaughan Accord of 2011, as well as photos of the new City Hall Construction, Christmas Wish Toy Drive, and Old Heritage and Vaughan Celebrates Photos from 2010.

Accession M022.4 contains objects related to well-known Vaughan figures and insitutions including John Thompson, Major Mackenzie, Garnet Williams and Elizabeth Arden. Many books contain inscriptions relating to the Stump family and the Bibles have inserts of birth registers and obituaries.

Accession M024.4 consists of 3 files relating to heritage properties on Keele Street: 8981 Keele, 9589 Keele and 9560 Keele.

Fonds consists of records that reflect the functions and activities of Council as a legislative and regulatory body in legal matters, taxation, justice and public protection, education, public health and welfare, finance, public accountability and planning. Records include, but are not limited to: working papers, minutes and resolutions, by-laws, reports to Council, and Court of Revision Records. The fonds chronicles Council activities and functions, and documents decisions and deliberations, and relationship with the civic administration, the Province of Ontario, the County of York, the Village of Woodbridge before 1971, and the Regional Municipality of York after 1971.

Carrville post office and Sherwood log schoolhouse photographs [grahic material]

File consists of 1963 photographs of Stan Sellen and his family and a neighbor, Bert Whitty, at Carrville Post Office (at that time their family home) which was built by Thomas Cook in 1844 and became the post office in 1965. File consists of a photograph of the Carrville Public School (School Section #3) located next to where Vince and Jean Del Brocco lived, opposite the Carrville Church. School was closed down and demolished shortly after 1960. Also included is a picture of the ruins of the old Reaman log cabin that used to stand on the edge of the creek, opposite the Carrville Post Office and hidden from the road. Third, a photo of Ann and their three children, Daniel (in the apple tree) Abigail and Adam holding a cat in the garden behind the house. Ann wrote is was "quite a wild field, we had no money for a lawn mower but we enjoyed the land. Must have been about 1967. The children were born, 59, 61 and 63. Now all have PhDs. Daniel is with the World Bank, in Colombia, Abigail with Microsoft in Cambridge, UK and Adam is a Professor in Merida, Mexico".

File consists of five photoprints depicting the old Reaman farm house which is accessed on Bathurst St. just around the corner from Rutherford, the monument at Barrhill Rd, on the NW corner of Barrhill and Rutherford. Monument contains gravestones from Reupard's Settlement Pioneer Burying Ground. One shows a bridge over river near the monument. CDs contain images of the Reaman farmhouse, Reupard's Settlement Pioneer Burying Grounds (cemetery monument and park and pond), gravestones on monument, the Carrville Post Office restoration celebration, and the William Cook House.

Ann Crichton-Harris Collection [Textual records]

Collection consists of two copies of an account of the saving and restoration of the Carrville Post Office by Ann Crichton-Harris. The Post Office was built by Thomas Cook ca. 1845 and lived in by the Del Brocco and Sellen family. The pamphlets include photos of the building and previous residents, as well as memories of growing up in house in 1960s by Dr. Daniel Sellen. The collection also contains a copy of Crichton-Harris' self-published book "Saving the Carrville General Store and Post Office - a very personal account" that was printed in 2014; ISBN: 9781503247826.

Printouts of photos from restoration ceremony held on Sept 19, 2013 were added by Archives staff to M013.23. Photos show the Del Brocco sisters now in their 80s and 90s. Also included is an article from the Toronto Star from 2009 regarding Crichton-Harris' fight to save the post office.

Accession M015.21 consists of two (2) digital image files, which contain images of two of Stan Sellen's art piece he gifted to Crichton-Harris. The images consist of a pastel print that captures the view opposite of 1076 Rutherformd Road in Maple, and the watercolour of the northwest corner of Dufferin Street and Rutherford road (originally Carrville).The images have been printed and retained in the Archives, along with the digital files themselves.
