Item consists of an unpublished essay relating to the experience of Robert Arthur West, the great-grandfather of the author, in Thornhill; Mr. West was the "Thornhill General Merchant" from 1834 to 1884. In addition to commenting upon the general history of Thornhill through its formative period, the essay describes the original store (located on lot 31 , east or Markham side of Yonge St.), subsequent structural changes, merchandise stocked, delineation of ownership from 1837-1937; the house originally built by Mr. West (7780 Yonge St., on west or Vaughan side of Yonge Street), and the latter's recollections of life along Yonge Street during the period specified; includes observations re: Fire of 1950 and Hurricane Hazel in 1954.

Mary Wood collection [Textual record and other material]

Fonds consists of textual records, photographic material and objects. Textual material predominantly composed of scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings, typescripts, circulars, brief histories and biographical sketches, pamphlets, etc. Also, graphic material including photoprints, some of which are located in the abovereferenced binders, slides, and microfiche copies of 2 photo albums. All material reflects Mrs. Wood's eclectic conception of those topics, events, persons, places, etc. constituting the history of the Vaughan area, with a particular emphasis on Woodbridge. M013.40 includes 19 diaries kept by Mary Wood between 1928 and 1989 as well as various cookbooks from the 1960s-1980s, photos of the Mud Brick House being moved, photos of the Fairground Lane Houses in Woodbridge being developed, and a Woodbridge School class photo from 1914 or 1915 as well as a book recording the graves at various cemeteries between 1921 and 1954. Also a book with obituary newspaper clippings from 1982 to 1989 and details on Wayne and Gert's 1956 wedding.

M019.3 contains material from Mary Wood received via Ann and Wayne Wood. This accession contains physical material from the Woodbridge Fall Fair (one cap, one candy dish, one entry ticket), one button with a mirror and a photograph material related to the funerals of Mary Wood, John Wood, and various others held at Scott Funeral Home in Woodbridge from 1969 to 1980. There is also 108 various Woodbridge photos (some identified, some not), 4 photo negatives, 1 stereosocopic negative, 14 negative strips, 3 postcards, business cards from Woodbridge in the mid-20th century, a baby book and pamphlet for Wayne Wood and funeral registers for (James Alvin Wood and Mary Wood, as well as the marriage certifcate and wedding book for John Wood and Mary (nee Brown) Wood. In addition, there are a couple scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, cards and documents, and a portrait of Mary Wood.

Collection consists of textual records, photographs, site plans and a photobook. Copies of Vaughan Township by-laws and petitions, correspondence of Peter Patterson (the founder of Patterson, Ont. and one of the proprietors and manager of the Patterson Works) and Redelmeier family, report concerning period structures remaining on present site, and newspaper clippings, published and unpublished essays relating to various aspects of Patterson's history, including one pertaining to the Patterson School, S.S. #19. Collection also includes plans of the hamlet, 1928 and 1936, as well as records re: history, activities, personalities, etc. of Don Head Farms. The collection includes five photographs depicting life on property, by then known as Don Head Farms, when it was an agricultural enterprize during latter part of Patterson ownership, and into the administration of W. Redelmeier and his sons (see below for further information); also noteworthy are 23 photographs copied from the Patterson Family Album depicting family members from the United States and Canada; as well as a photograph of Mrs. Peter Patterson, executed in 1866, and a photograph of the Patterson residence, ca. 1870. Additionally, photographic documentation of Patterson family related matters in Westfield, New York focusing on the Asa Farnsworth House, Holland Land Company, and "Old Cemetary" (where a number of family tombstones are depicted), as well as the town of Patterson, California are present. Collection is also notable for the presence of a number of record copies pertaining to the noted town of Patterson, California, a present-day municipality of some 7000 people incorporated in 1919, and adjacent ranch founded by T.W. Patterson, the nephew of Peter Patterson, during the mid-nineteenth century: Cartographic material, municipal by-laws, newspaper articles, correspondence, and legal documents and other documentation generated by the Patterson ranch. M008.4 accession is constituted of photocopies of Patterson and Bro Manufacturers

Item consists of an edition of The Woodbridge and Vaughan News. This edition includes numerous articles re: the history of Woodbridge; specifically, articles comment upon the architectural history of Woodbridge, demographic development, the Woodbridge Library and Post Office, Hurricane Hazel, prominent community members such as Rowland Burr, Dr. Garnet McClean, and John Abell, etc. Includes numerous halftones depicting various subject matter, including rare images of the Abell Agricultural Works.
