William J. Farrand fonds [Graphic material]

Fonds consists of photographs, including examples of the three earliest photographic processes: daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes. All of the above are formal studio portraits depicting individuals who are presumably members of the Farrand family, [ca. 1855-1865]; a number of the albumen photoprints within the fonds are also formal posed studio portraits, and appear in cartes-de-visite and cabinet card formats. In addition to the Farrand and Snider families, postcards depicting various Woodbridge scenes such as streetscapes, the Pine Ave. Bridge, the Snider House and a barn raising on the same property, the Woodbridge C.P.R. Depot, Woodbridge School, etc. [ca. 1885-1910] are present. Accompanying the fonds is a small grouping of textual material: correspondence between C.J.S Farrand and Mary Wood, 1963-64; a souvenir prize list and program for the 100th Anniversary Woodbridge Fair, 1947; also a small number of three dimensional artifacts accompany the fonds: 2 ribbons from the Woodbridge Fair, "Guest", 1935 and "Hon. Director", 1910, and an imitation pewter atomizer enscriberd "Zoe E. Snider".

Vellore Women's Institute fonds [Textual record and other material]

Fonds consists of minute books, 1915-1982, delineating deliberations, decisions, and activities of the Vellore Women's Institute, as well as occasionally citing the names of members and officers; and Vellore Tweedsmuir history (present in original and microform). Main topical subjects addressed in the latter include: Vellore Women's Institute and its contribution to welfare and development of the community; general community history including geography and topography of the locale; municipal government; agriculture; architecture; education; trade and commerce; histories of individual farms and families; religion; experiences of the community in Canada's wars including namers of volunteers in both conflicts; the Vellore Literary Society; the Vellore Band; transcribed reminicences of such individuals as Mrs. Ann Davidson, and Elizabeth Ann Snider; (extensive coverage of Rutherford Barn Raising, 1929; as well as history of hamlet of Teston; and Purpleville School (S.S #11).
The 2002 accrual consists of the papers from the Woodbridge Agricultural Fair and the Canadian Association of Exhibitions; minute books of the Vellore Women

Vaughan Township Historical Society fonds

Fonds consist of minute books, and membership lists and treasurer's lists; graphic material consists of photoprints depicting the presentation of the original 1868 plans of the Vellore School and accompanying architectural material by the Vaughan Township Historical Society to Archives Vaughan, 1989, Dec. 9; as well as microfiche copy of photo album documenting Historical Society's barn project, 1974, microfiche of plan of side-road between lots 40 and 41, concession 1 illustrating longitudinal and cross sections, 1866, photoprints of John Harvie, Maple's first train conductor, taken in 1914, and undated photoprint of Keffer Log House, lot 14, concession 3. Fonds also includes two printing plates used in Society's publication of, Somerville, Patricia and Macfarlane, Catherine, eds. Vaughan Township Churches (Maple: Vaughan Township Historical Society, 1985); and collected material relating to Vellore School: correspondence of Vellore School Trustees, 1868, and original 1868 architectural drawings (3 elevations) of the Vellore School and sundry late 20th-century material related to the restoration thereof. Of note, too, is a series of postcards providing extensive visual documentation of Vaughan Township during the late-19th to early-20th century. Also present is a video production released in 1995 by the Vaughan Township Historical Society relating to the Village of Maple during the 1940's, and the full interview with Joe Stong relating to the history of the Stong family in Vaughan and North York, excerpts of which were utilized in the production of the former. Also depicted is Lot 14, Concession 3.

Item consists of footage of 1929 Rutherford Barn Raising, with contemporary interviews with individuals who took part in the barn raising or in the preparation of the suceeding celebratory meal; also includes interviews with contemporary timber framers visiting the barn and discussing the use of timber frames and similar techniques presently adapted for use in construction of homes and home additions.
