Descendant of Jacob and Mary Baker who emigrated from Somerset County, Pennsylvania to Upper Canada in 1800; in 1800 Jonathan Baker, a grandchild of the above, purchased Lot 11 of Concession 2 in Vaughan Township. This property, which remains in the hands of Baker descendants, included a harness shop where Isaac Baker plied his trade, providing the Vaughan community with horse harnesses and leather goods for over 60 years.

Bereik en inhoud

Fonds consists of personal journals chronicling experiences of the author and his family, and business records of the harness shop, which take the form of two daybooks, journals for recording daily financial transaction, and a manual delineating all of the specifications of equestrian accoutrements made by Baker; fonds also includes two journals chronicling the household expenses and disbursements of Baker family ; fonds as a whole particularly useful in documenting life and business during the Great Depression in Vaughan Township.
