Custodial history

In the spring of 2013, the grade 12 photography class at St. Jean de Brebeuf C.H.S., under the direction of their teacher, John Senisi, began a project using historic photographs from the City Archives. The students attempted to match the location in their chosen historic image with the present day geographical location. The assignment presented the students with many difficulties such as finding the right angle, exact standing location of the original photographer, and dealing with the unanticipated lens distortion effects occasionally used in the 1800s. On average, the students had to return to the location a minimum of three times in order to get the desired effect. In January 2014, the students hosted an exhibition at Vellore Hall titled Vaughan Retrospective. Upon receipt of the digital files, the Achives created a virtual exhibit on the website and Corporate Communications posted the images to the City's blog, Facebook page, Twitter account, and Jostle.
