Woodbridge agricultural society fonds [multiple media]

Fonds consists of correspondence, administrative files, by-laws, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, financial documents, membership lists, fair program and prize lists, legal documents, advertising and promotional material, videocassettes, photoprints, postcards, posters, and ephemera. Most records generated as a result of administration of the Woodbridge Fair with subject matter including Miss Woodbridge Pageant, space requests, general activities, exhibits, Woodbridge Fair Parade, Woodbridge Centennial, livestock judging, etc. M999.9 accession constituted of the Woodbridge Fall Fair papers such as programs, posters, applications for permits, newspaper clippings, correspondence and photographs. The remnants of a tin time capsule from 1924 that was opened in 1997 are also included along with the contents of the time capsule including: 1921-1924 Woodbridge Fair prize lists and letters written by Daniel C. Longhouse. Fonds also includes papers from the Burwick Women

Fonds consists of textual material, including funeral notices, 1899-1970; Woodbridge Council minutes (printed), 1925, 1930; Woodbridge voters lists, 1954, 1963, 1968; Town of Vaughan voters lists, 1974, 1979; Vaughan Township and Woodbridge telephone directories, 1946; notebooks listing Woodbridge reeves, councillors, auditors, and hydro commissioners for period 1882-1906; Woodbridge Citizen's Band, cash book, 1917-32; autograph book, 1896-1906; newspapers, 1913-1983; financial documents, predominantly Alvin Wood's tax receipts; text books, promotional exams and test answer sheets for various disciplines belonging to Mr. Wood. Also of note: 6 original letters of Vaughan's earliest settlers describing life in the area, 1843-1860.

Vellore Women's Institute fonds [Textual record and other material]

Fonds consists of minute books, 1915-1982, delineating deliberations, decisions, and activities of the Vellore Women's Institute, as well as occasionally citing the names of members and officers; and Vellore Tweedsmuir history (present in original and microform). Main topical subjects addressed in the latter include: Vellore Women's Institute and its contribution to welfare and development of the community; general community history including geography and topography of the locale; municipal government; agriculture; architecture; education; trade and commerce; histories of individual farms and families; religion; experiences of the community in Canada's wars including namers of volunteers in both conflicts; the Vellore Literary Society; the Vellore Band; transcribed reminicences of such individuals as Mrs. Ann Davidson, and Elizabeth Ann Snider; (extensive coverage of Rutherford Barn Raising, 1929; as well as history of hamlet of Teston; and Purpleville School (S.S #11).
The 2002 accrual consists of the papers from the Woodbridge Agricultural Fair and the Canadian Association of Exhibitions; minute books of the Vellore Women

Mary Wood collection [Textual record and other material]

Fonds consists of textual records, photographic material and objects. Textual material predominantly composed of scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings, typescripts, circulars, brief histories and biographical sketches, pamphlets, etc. Also, graphic material including photoprints, some of which are located in the abovereferenced binders, slides, and microfiche copies of 2 photo albums. All material reflects Mrs. Wood's eclectic conception of those topics, events, persons, places, etc. constituting the history of the Vaughan area, with a particular emphasis on Woodbridge. M013.40 includes 19 diaries kept by Mary Wood between 1928 and 1989 as well as various cookbooks from the 1960s-1980s, photos of the Mud Brick House being moved, photos of the Fairground Lane Houses in Woodbridge being developed, and a Woodbridge School class photo from 1914 or 1915 as well as a book recording the graves at various cemeteries between 1921 and 1954. Also a book with obituary newspaper clippings from 1982 to 1989 and details on Wayne and Gert's 1956 wedding.

M019.3 contains material from Mary Wood received via Ann and Wayne Wood. This accession contains physical material from the Woodbridge Fall Fair (one cap, one candy dish, one entry ticket), one button with a mirror and a photograph material related to the funerals of Mary Wood, John Wood, and various others held at Scott Funeral Home in Woodbridge from 1969 to 1980. There is also 108 various Woodbridge photos (some identified, some not), 4 photo negatives, 1 stereosocopic negative, 14 negative strips, 3 postcards, business cards from Woodbridge in the mid-20th century, a baby book and pamphlet for Wayne Wood and funeral registers for (James Alvin Wood and Mary Wood, as well as the marriage certifcate and wedding book for John Wood and Mary (nee Brown) Wood. In addition, there are a couple scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, cards and documents, and a portrait of Mary Wood.

Shunk copy book (arithmetic) from Edgeley School; 1854-1889; indentures and deed of land to Shunk property, 1854-1895; photoprints and textual material re: Keffers and Shunks; Marion Keffer's personal papers; bulk of fonds: notes and compilation of M. Keffer re: pursuit of genealogy in Ontario, and early Vaughan Township families. Also of interest is an interview done by Marion in 1977 with her cousins, Margaret and Rose, regarding their trip via wagon in 1909.

Records consist of assignments, test and examination papers, notebooks, day planners, textbooks, a pocket dictionary, daily attendance registers for Vaughan Township School S.S. No. 9 (Vellore School) and various handwritten notes. Also included are miscellaneous private records such as church programs, a playbill for a performance, a booklet containing baking recipes, newspapers and periodicals, an auto insurance card issued to John W. Constable and a box of candy.
