Bryson School fonds

Fonds consists of one "visitor's book" which includes the commentsof the Public School Inspector and School Superintendent during their annual inspection, in addition to comments made by occasional visitors (teachers from other local schools, etc.); this volume also includes the minutes of the annual meetings of the school's trustees, 1868-1890; and lists of pupils and the fees required of each to attend the school. Fonds also includes a history of the school; a list of teachers; and 4 photoprints depicting the brick structure and students as it appeared in 1957, with one photoprint doing the same for [between 1876 and 1879].

File consists of correspondence of Vellore School Trustees, 1868, Town of Vaughan Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee (Heritage Vaughan) agenda relating to designation of Vellore School, and Township Hall (also located at Vellore) as historic structures under the Ontario Heritage Act, 1985, and original architectural drawings (3 elevations), 1868 of the Vellore School.

Maple School Board of Trustees fonds

Fonds consists of minute book of the Maple School Board of Trustees for the period 1890-1906 recording the deliberations and providing evidence of the transactions and actions of the Board; and the standardized public school daily attendance register for 1898. The latter was provided to public schools via the local school inspector, and in addition to providing the names of students, offers an indication of the moral tone of the day with its regulations for religious instruction; item also provides evidence of curriculum by citing a list of text-books authorized for public school use in Ontario, and a programme of studies delineating the required content of the various courses taught: reading; spelling and writing; grammar and composition; English poetical literature and English language; geography; arithmetic and elementary mensuration; bookkeeping; algebra; geometry; physiology, temprance and agriculture; drawing; botany; Latin and Greek; French and German; music. M009.16 accession contains three documents: 1) a bond to convey the premises from John Line to the Trustees of School Section No. 6 dated 1873, 2) a description of part of Lot 18 Concession 4 prepared by Peter Gibson, Public Land Surveyor, dated 1873, and 3) an indenture dated 1879 from John Line to the School Board Trustees.

Vaughan Township Historical Society fonds

Fonds consist of minute books, and membership lists and treasurer's lists; graphic material consists of photoprints depicting the presentation of the original 1868 plans of the Vellore School and accompanying architectural material by the Vaughan Township Historical Society to Archives Vaughan, 1989, Dec. 9; as well as microfiche copy of photo album documenting Historical Society's barn project, 1974, microfiche of plan of side-road between lots 40 and 41, concession 1 illustrating longitudinal and cross sections, 1866, photoprints of John Harvie, Maple's first train conductor, taken in 1914, and undated photoprint of Keffer Log House, lot 14, concession 3. Fonds also includes two printing plates used in Society's publication of, Somerville, Patricia and Macfarlane, Catherine, eds. Vaughan Township Churches (Maple: Vaughan Township Historical Society, 1985); and collected material relating to Vellore School: correspondence of Vellore School Trustees, 1868, and original 1868 architectural drawings (3 elevations) of the Vellore School and sundry late 20th-century material related to the restoration thereof. Of note, too, is a series of postcards providing extensive visual documentation of Vaughan Township during the late-19th to early-20th century. Also present is a video production released in 1995 by the Vaughan Township Historical Society relating to the Village of Maple during the 1940's, and the full interview with Joe Stong relating to the history of the Stong family in Vaughan and North York, excerpts of which were utilized in the production of the former. Also depicted is Lot 14, Concession 3.
